1. The Goats Who Were Arrested For Straying
In 2013, five goats were arrested by the Nigerian police for violating environmental laws. It was said the goats ran foul of the laws guiding environmental protection by roaming around the residential area of Osogbo instead of being caged by their owners.
2. Iran Arrest Pigeon For Spying on Nuclear Site
In 2008, a pigeon was caught by Iranian security forces near a rose water production plant in the city of Kashan in Isfahan province, Iran. It was said that some metal rings and “invisible” strings were attached to the bird, suggesting that it might have been somehow communicating what it had seen with the equipment it was carrying.
3. The Dogs Who Were Arrested For Attacking Siblings
In 2014, two dogs were arrested by the Nigerian Police for attacking three siblings and injuring one of them on the skull. The owner of the dogs, Jegede, was also arrested for allowing them to have uncontrolled freedom. The animal arrest was made after Jegede’s neighbours called the police when they heard the shrill cries of the children being mauled by the fierce dogs.
4. The Ducks Who Were Arrested For Spying
Egyptian police, in 2013, arrested a duck they feared was sent by Israel as a spy. The bird was spotted by a fisherman in the Nile River, in the Qena region, as it swam with other birds. The fisherman noticed that the bird had a device attached to its feathers, which he feared could be used to gather information. Israeli officials later confirmed that the device was used to track the bird itself, as part of a study to ensure the safety of the rare species.
5. The Cat Who Was Detained For Smuggling Contraband at Russian Prison
In 2013, a cat at a Russian prison facility was detained after guards found cell phones and chargers taped to the animal’s belly. Cell phones are strictly verboten in Russian prisons, and authorities believe that the cat was being used by prisoners to ferry items in and out of their cell blocks.
The technologically advanced cat was discovered near the fence at Penal Colony No. 1 near the city of Syktyvkar, which is around 600 miles north of Moscow. The cat was detained and stripped of its expensive contraband.
6. The Cow Who Was Arrested for Murder
Police in Nigeria arrested a cow when he attacked a man and killed him. The stray animal attacked the man from behind as he was urinating on a motorway near the country’s commercial city of Lagos, as the man fell down, the cow repeatedly hit him with its hooves and horns until he died.
7. The Rams Who Were Detained For Assault
In Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria, two rams were arrested for attacking and injuring a 65-year old woman popularly known as ”Iya Oyo”. She was on her way to a commercial bank in Okesa area with her son on Monday to withdraw some money when one of the rams owned by a manager of a filling station in the area went berserk and gored her, fracturing her right thigh. She fell immediately after the attack and became unconscious but was rushed to the clinic by sympathizers.
8. The Dog Who Was Arrested For Shoplifting
Staff at a general store thought they’d gone ‘barking mad’ when a serial shoplifter was revealed as crafty canine, Cato the husky dog. The shop workers had decided to check their CCTV after a spate of thefts at their general store in Clinton, South Carolina. But, they were surprised to find that it was a four-legged bandit who was responsible for their stock going walkies.
In fact the footage showed Cato casually waiting for the door to open so he could help himself to bones, dog food and pigs ears that he then buried nearby. The furry thief, who had managed to get off his lead before the shoplifting spree, was arrested by police and had to spend time in a pound. The officers, who described it as their best arrest ever, even filled out a report for fun, but the staff said they didn’t want to press charges.
9. The Squirrels Accused of Spying
In 2007 Iranian police arrested around 14 squirrels of spying for the West, claiming that they had been fitted with listening devices. The squirrels were armed with spy gear of foreign agencies but were stopped before they could act.
10. The Ape Who Got Busted For Smoking
In the early 1900s, an ape was arrested for smoking in South Bend. During a performance of a trained animal show, the trained ape had decided to take a quick one but was immediately apprehended.
